Miss Neve | Thomas party of 5

Well Guys, we’re home. We got back into town last Saturday, and we’ve just been trying to get our house in order and cell phones and vehicles and all that. Catching up with friends and family, and trying to reset our sleep-clocks. We have had a great little adventure over the past 8 months or so, but it feels good to be home.

Finally, we can eat fried chicken and talk American again:)

But really we have been antsy to get to work again, and we were lucky to be able to start soon after our return. We got to make a quick trip to Charleston, SC for a couple of shoots. The first was with some family that you may have seen on the blog before: Cousins Jon, Erin, Neve, Max and Dulcy. Neve was born while we were in Romania so we’ve been itching to get back and become acquainted with our new niece. She was full of personality and we truly enjoyed our time together in the fantastic little town of Summerville, SC. We pushed her a little past nap time and were able to capture several “get out of my flippin face and put me to bed” expressions.

Ronda, Spain

Ronda was our favorite Spanish experience. Fortunately it rained nearly everyday we were there and we got to hang out with some beautiful people at our hostel such as our friend Paul Sebastian, our hostel host, and Vera and Tomas, some fellow travelers. When we did venture out of the hostel we hiked down to a “secret garden,” sat by a waterfall, and found all sorts of off-the-map nooks and crannies.

On the last day we found (thanks to Jamie Oliver via my brother and his girlfriend Jamie) a bakery run by nuns. Sweet buns by nuns. Due to the their desires to try and avoid the public, the entire transaction was done on a dolly. We didn’t see a single person. The pastries were stellar.

altea, spain

Ahhhh, Altea. We pretty much just laid on the beach, ate disgusting paella (traditional Spanish meal), and visited all of the local shops. Our view from the apartment was one of the best parts (see first picture) and we were so pleased with our choice to use airbnb. If you haven’t heard of www.airbnb.com you should absolutely check it out. People all over the world use airbnb to rent out rooms in their homes or either they rent their entire house (which is what we got in Altea). It’s kind of like couchsurfing.com but you always get a room and a bed. We think its a better way to travel because it’s local and not touristy at all, plus you are paying for it which takes a little pressure off having to socialize with the hosts.

Anyways. The last few pictures are from our road trip from Altea to Ronda. Gonna have to go with “one of most (if not the most) beautiful drives we’ve ever experienced”. We only took a few pictures on the drive because we were trying to take it all in and enjoy just being together. =) Imagine the last photo on this blog times 7 hours of driving.

Barthelona

Here’s a few tasty little morsels from, as the locals says, Barthelona, Thpain.

The Jaspers minus Ben | Siria, Romania

The Jaspers became dear friends to us during our stay in Romania. They traveled by tractor and caravan nearly 4 years ago from Holland. It took them 7 weeks and they all still liked each other when they arrived. There are a total of 8 Jaspers. You’ve got the parentals, Hans (the greatest greenhouse builder around) and Mary followed by Anne-Maaike, Ben (who was in Holland during this shoot) Laura, Else, Femke, and Noa. They are rad to the bone and their list of awesomenesses cannot be completed. Each person speaks Dutch, Romanian and English. They are ALL musical. Noa, the youngest, played a beautiful rendition of “Yellow Submarine” while we were shooting. They drive in the swankiest yellow VW van you’ve ever seen. Their house is full of color, creativity and the cutest animals (ducks, rabbits, and a cat called Bounty).

Life for the Jaspers is simple and we are grateful to have watched and learned from them.

On this shoot we spent an afternoon on a mountainside in Siria. They played dress up (Else is wearing her mother’s wedding dress), had a picnic and pretended to be tourists. Grab a tea and enjoy.
